Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a disaster
Jul 16, 2022 · As a Donkey Kong Country game, I rate Tropical Freeze as a failure because if a game is trying to be a sequel in an ongoing series, you should assume certain baseline mechanics to be true. In my opinion, the roll->dash->run mechanic is something that should stay true to any game in the series.

IMO, Tropical Freeze’s OST is significantly better than Wonder’s. David Wise is a genius. Wonder has some good songs but much of its soundtrack is geared towards kids while Tropical Freeze’s soundtrack sounds more universal. The singing of the piranha plants was cringe to me in Wonder. And lastly, Tropical Freeze is actually a challenge.

I've just tried playing Donkey Kong Country Returns recently, and mostly thinking about how it wasn't as fun as I remember it to be. The fun levels are too short and the longer ones drag on. Tropical Freeze looks like it solves both of these problems, plus more kongs. Thinking of buying a switch just to play TF when it comes out in May.

Oct 24, 2023 · This game is fine, but nowhere near as brilliant, challenging, with great music as Donkey Kong- even the controls in DK have slight delay- which on surface feel sturdier, but it allows very gentle adjustments and precision on the go, which the original Mario games had too- you could tap the d pad to slightly alter speed, and DK does that better.
Why does Tropical Freeze get so much hype compared to Returns?
Dec 30, 2021 · Tropical Freeze feels more like an evolution of the Country series as it maybe would have gone on, where there are way more Kongs, more different settings (a tradition from the original sequels to DKC1), the triumphant return of David Wise, underwater levels, a slightly more somber tone (at least in the final world), the list goes on.

I’ve made it a goal to fully max out my completion percentage in tropical freeze, as it’s my all time favorite game, and I have done the 200% the game recognizes. I’ve also counted getting gold time trials for an extra “300%.”

Jul 15, 2020 · I too am working towards full Tropical Freeze completion, and am very nearly done with hard mode Kong letters. I only have the world three boss, the world five challenge stage, and the world six boss left. I’ve dabbled in time trials, and I do believe that shiny medals are dev times, cuz that’s how it worked in Returns.
