The pulsed dye laser (PDL) has proven safe and effective for the treatment of many skin lesions, but little data exist for its role in the treatment of molluscum contagiosum. The purpose of this study is to describe the use, over a 28-month period, of the 585-nm PDL for the treatment of molluscum contagiosum.

Methods: 19 children aged between 2 and 13 years (median:6) with molluscum contagiosum were treated in a prospective, non-randomized pilot study with the flashlamp pumped pulsed dye laser (wave length:585 nm, pulse duration 0,45 ms, spot size 7 mm, energy density 6-7 J/cm (2)). Results: All patients tolerated the laser treatment well.

Jun 19, 2013 · Molluscum contagiosum nodules are common viral-induced lesions that are troublesome to treat, especially in children. I report the first study, to my knowledge, demonstrating effective, well-tolerated, and quick treatment of these lesions with the 585-nm pulsed dye laser.
