The Philadelphia Phillies announced they have optioned Mick Abel to Triple-A and recalled Seth Johnson to the active roster ahead of the Cincinnati Reds series.

Five walks in 1 2/3 innings — the first Phillies starter to do that since 1998 — will only prompt larger questions about where Abel fits.

Abel walked five batters and lasted just 1.2 innings. He threw 53 pitches — only 25 of them strikes — giving up five earned runs and a pair of hits while striking out three.
