Report: Bill Belichick checked in with Patriots' rival for coaching job
Per a report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the legendary NFL coach’s inner circle had informal conversations with the New York Jets before he accepted the head coaching job at North Carolina. The Jets have moved forward with Jeff Ulbrich as their interim head coach after firing Robert Saleh during the season. Russini wrote:
Bill Belichick reportedly had 'interest' in returning to Jets before taking UNC job
Nothing came of his interest, though. Very few people within the Jets were made aware of a possible Belichick partnership. According to Russini, the Jets and Belichick never got to the point of meetings or a formal discussion before the UNC train got rolling.
