The West Coast Conference is suing Grand Canyon University over an alleged breach of contract after the school announced it would instead join the Mountain West Conference — just six months after signing with the WCC.

The West Coast Conference is alleging Grand Canyon University breached its contract by refusing to pay outstanding fees as it prepares to change conferences, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday. The complaint claims GCU has refused to pay outstanding money owed to the conference for entrance and withdrawal fees after a short-lived agreement.

GCU was not scheduled to become a member of the WCC until July 1, 2025, and the WCC's claims that GCU has ‘withdrawn’ from the WCC or breached any contractual obligation are inaccurate.” The West Coast Conference filed a lawsuit against Grand Canyon University over breach of contract after the school changed course and decided to join the Mountain West Conference over the WCC next year.
