The city of Bend, Oregon, posted on its Instagram page, requesting that residents to stop putting googly eyes on public art. While conceding that they are amusing, the city claims that removing them damages the outdoor artwork.

The city has so far spent $1,500 on removing googly eyes from seven of the eight sculptures impacted.

Bend has 27 pieces of public art placed in roundabouts throughout the city according to Bend’s tourism website. One piece, “Crossroads” is not listed, said Betteridge. Most installations are in the southeast quadrant of the town and pieces range from abstract to functional to literal.
