After months of speculation, the French fashion house has appointed Bottega Veneta’s creative director to its top job.

French luxury brand Chanel has opted for 40-year-old Matthieu Blazy as its new creative director instead of one of the industry's established celebrity designers.

After months of speculation, fashion’s most prestigious job was just given to the former creative director of Kering’s Bottega Veneta.

One of the most prestigious roles in global fashion has just been filled, as Chanel announced Matthieu Blazy as its new artistic director.

At his former gig as Bottega Veneta's creative director, Blazy was creating high-style looks for Julianne Moore, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Yeoh and (many) others. He'll do the same at the house Coco built.

PARIS (Reuters) -French fashion house Chanel selected former Bottega Veneta design chief Matthieu Blazy as its next creative director, Women's Wear Daily and the Financial Times reported Thursday. French luxury group Kering earlier said it has appointed Louise Trotter as creative director of its Bottega Veneta brand to replace Blazy,

Belgian national has been creative director of Bottega Veneta since 2021. He will join the storied French house in 2025.

“Matthieu Blazy is one of the most gifted designers of his generation,” said Alain Wertheimer, global executive chairman, and Leena Nair, global ceo of Chanel. “His vision and talent will reinforce the energy of the brand and our position as a leader in luxury.” Annual revenues at Chanel exceed $19 billion, WWD has reported.

For the great luxury houses, it's terribly important to be embodied by a strong, talented personality. Big names in luxury regularly announce, sometimes discreetly, at times loudly, the name of their new artistic director.
