Since it started on Friday afternoon, the Gifford Fire -- which is situated within the Los Padres National Forest in Solvang, California -- has burned 72,460 acres and has only reached 7% containment, prompting evacuation orders for those in the Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, officials said.

California’s Gifford Fire has scorched more than 82,000 acres, injuring at least three people and forcing evacuations in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

On Tuesday afternoon, it surpassed the state's then-largest fire, the Madre Fire, which scorched about 81,000 acres in the same region last month.
