U.S. President Donald Trump signed pardons for 23 anti-abortion protesters on Thursday, the White House said, including a set of people convicted of blockading a clinic entrance. The people had been tried for conspiring in 2020 to overrun a Washington reproductive health clinic and setting up a blockade to intimidate patients and staff.

The new Trump administration could put a stop to pending litigation on the abortion pill mifepristone and other federal abortion policies through changes at the Department of Health and Human Services, according to a top anti-abortion lawyer involved in several pending cases.

The bill would require that infants born alive after an attempted abortion receive the same protection as any newborn baby, and threaten medical providers with prison time for failing to resuscitate them.

Senate Republicans failed on Wednesday to invoke cloture on a bill legislating care for infants “born alive” during attempted abortions, with the motion largely serving to get Democrats on the record as voting against a bill being framed as anti-infanticide.

This week marks the first time Republicans will hold a federal trifecta since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, which overturned the federal right to an abortion.
