FORT WORTH – An explosion at a power substation in North Fort Worth resulted in a massive fire Wednesday evening and the voluntary evacuation of nearby homes. The incident off Seventeen Lakes Boulevard and Henrietta Creek Road was reported at about 7:15 p.m.

As snow, freezing rain and sleet make their way through North Texas this Thursday and early Friday during the winter storm, most schools and offices are closing their doors, but many other services will remain open.

The Fort Worth Fire Department said the fire was a "very active scene" Wednesday night and advised people to avoid the area.

Investigators say the substation holds about 30,000 gallons of oil. It's unclear how much of it has already burned off.

Fort Worth officials have not yet revealed what caused an explosion at a power substation that led to a large fire.
