After previously shutting down the idea, Sarah Michelle Gellar said she is now open to returning to the “ Buffy the Vampire Slayer ” universe. In an appearance on “ The Drew Barrymore Show ,” Gellar shared that she has been considering reprising her role as Buffy in a potential project.

Fans of the hit 90s-2000s series Buffy the Vampire Slayer have been diehard since the show first aired. Some have wondered whether in this age of reboots we could possibly see the original cast members return to make some new episodes.

Based on Joss Whedon ‘s 1992 movie of the same name, which Barrymore revealed she auditioned for, Buffy the Vampire Slayer ran for seven seasons on The WB from 1997 to 2003. It followed the titular Valley girl as she relocates to Sunnydale High School, which sits on top of a Hellmouth, providing plenty of supernatural evil for her to slay.

"While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don't want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon," Gellar wrote. "I am more focused on raising my family and surviving a pandemic currently so I will not be making any further statements. I stand with all survivors of abuse and I'm proud of them for speaking out."
