The San Francisco 49ers' 2024 season has been a disaster in most conceivable facets. A 6-8 start and a near certain absence from the postseason for the first time since 2020 led some fans to clamor for Shanahan's ouster.

Buried under the wreckage, barely able to speak at an audible volume, was Kyle Shanahan — the man who had the most to do with the 49ers’ failings, and the biggest culprit behind a last-gasp attempt to extend an era that seemed doomed from its inception last February.

"I've found the whole discussion on Kyle rather comical,'' GM John Lynch says of the 49ers moving on from coach Kyle Shanahan. "The fact that people are talking about stuff like that, I do find it comical.
