The Samajwadi Party (SP) member of Parliament (MP), Ziaur Rahman Barq, has been fined Rs 1.91 crore by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) on the grounds of alleged electricity theft.

Zia Ur Rehman Barq has been slapped with a ₹1.91 crore fine by the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Department for alleged power theft at his Sambhal residence. The fine was levied after an inspection by the department on Thursday found evidence of tampering with two electricity meters at his home.

The electricity department reported several irregularities related to the power supply at Sambhal MP Ziaur Rahman Barq's residence.

Accusing Zia Ur Rehman Barq, the Samajwadi Party MP from Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal Zia Ur Rehman Barq, of electricity theft at his residence, the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Department has slapped a fine of Rs 1.91 crore on him.

Samajwadi Party MP from Sambhal Zia Ur Rehman Barq is reported to have a 2 kilowatt (kW) connection whereas, the load is 16.5 kW.

The electricity department claimed that the evidence of tampering with two electricity meters was found during an inspection at Zia Ur Rahman Barq's residence on Thursday morning.
