Roughly 4,000 National Guard soldiers and 700 Marines were deployed to Los Angeles in early June over the objections of state and local officials. Half of the Guard were pulled back roughly two weeks ago, and the Marines were ordered to leave a few days later.

In response to the Pentagon's announcement of the release of the Guardsmen in Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass said on X, "Another win for Los Angeles tonight: 1,000 more troops are retreating."

The Pentagon said it was ending the deployment of more National Guard troops that were sent to Los Angeles to respond to anti-ICE protests.
