The good news is there are no “traitors” in Canada’s parliament. The bad news? Foreign interference is still a problem and a big one.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should have acted quicker to protect Canadian elections from outside meddling, a government commission said, shaking trust in democratic institutions.

In her seven-volume final report, Justice Marie-Josée Hogue, the commissioner of the public inquiry into foreign interference, detailed what she thinks are the greatest threats to Canadian democracy,

OTTAWA — The federal government needs to significantly bolster its defences against the growing threat of foreign interference by China, India and other hostile actors before the imminent federal election, but there are no “traitors” in Parliament, according to the foreign interference inquiry.

The final report from the foreign-interference inquiry finds a “very small number” of cases where foreign meddling may have influenced the outcome of nomination races or riding-level elections, but “no evidence to suggest that our institutions have been seriously affected.”
