The latest departures from the CDC mean close to a third of the agency's top management is leaving or left recently.

Five key division leaders at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are leaving the public health agency as it braces for cuts that could affect as much as a third of its workforce.

According to the Associated Press, which confirmed the resignations through two CDC officials who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, the resignations were revealed during a senior leadership meeting on Tuesday.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will immediately end federal funding to California for COVID vaccination, surveillance and testing, California health officials said Wednesday. The funding had been awarded to state and local public health departments during the pandemic.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is pulling back $11.4 billion in funds allocated in response to Covid to state and community health departments.
