Opting out of a second ride on the NFL HC carousel, Belichick made a preemptive strike by accepting an offer to coach at North Carolina in December.

With rumors coming out about NFL teams reaching out to Bill Belichick, some more news recently came out about his contract with UNC.

Belichick has routinely been named as a potential head-coaching candidate for the Las Vegas Raiders due to his close relationship with Raiders minority owner Tom Brady.

"Sources tell CBS Sports — and UNC confirmed this week — that there is no fully-executed and signed contract between Belichick and UNC. And industry sources say that could lead to a legal gray area about how much, if any, of a buyout there would be if Belichick left for the pros.

Belichick famously spurned the New York Jets after he was named Bill Parcells’s successor. His tenure lasted less than 24 hours after he wrote his resignation on a napkin and jumped ship to take over the New England Patriots. This move paid off handsomely.

Like many coaches, Belichick has tried to utilize the transfer portal to the fullest, but he took a major loss on Wednesday. That came in the form of the Tar Heels' leading passer in 2024, Jacolby Criswell, who's made the decision to hit the portal in search of a new program. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported the news.
