One of the greatest basketball players of all time is hanging up her sneakers, as Diana Taurasi announced that she would be retiring from the WNBA on Tuesday.
Taurasi, 42, joined the Phoenix Mercury at 22 years old as the first overall pick out of UConn in 2004. She went on to play 20 WNBA seasons, all with the team that drafted her. She helped lead the franchise to WNBA championships in 2007, 2009 and 2014, earning Finals MVP honors in 2009 and 2014.
Along the way, she battled against some of the league’s best talent, including Caitlin Clark. Following the news of Taurasi’s retirement, Clark took to Instagram to share a fitting one-word tribute. What did she say about one of the best ever to do it? “Legend,” Clark wrote to her stories.
Diana Taurasi retired on Tuesday, ending her 20-year career with the Phoenix Mercury. She's the WNBA's career scoring leader with 10,646 points and was a three-time league champion.
