National Weather Service meteorologists warned of temperatures cold enough to be fatal descending across most of the nation.

Northwestern New Jersey counties have reported the highest snow totals of up to 7 inches from Sunday’s winter storm. Morris County had the top three totals reported to the National Weather Service with Kinnelon topping the list at 7 inches.

Residents across parts of the Gulf Coast and South are bracing for a rare winter storm expected to drop heavy snow and create treacherous conditions, including freezing rain and sleet.

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Flights to and from the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport are expected to be impacted by the winter storm. Officials from the Baton Rouge Metro Airport are monitoring the incoming winter storm and expect possible disruptions of flight schedules and airport operations.

On Monday at 1:26 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning valid from Tuesday noon until Wednesday 6 a.m. for Coffee, Dale, Henry, Geneva and Houston counties.

Impacts will begin in east Texas by Monday night. Ice and snow could contribute to power outages amid freezing temperatures.

Most cities in the region don't have snowplows. Louisiana had 400,000 pounds of salt ready to spread over roads and bridges in preparation for the icy conditions.
