The powertrain control module may be equipped with a voltage regulator chip in the circuit board that may fail, causing a stall or a no start condition.

Since this was a software problem, the fix is pretty straightforward as dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module with updated software.

“The powertrain control module software may cause an incorrect fuel mixture condition in the engine and result in an engine stall," according to one document posted recently on the NHTSA site.
