A one-foot-long baby squid was spotted swimming in the waters around the South Sandwich islands. The footage is unprecedented because the mysterious creatures are so difficult to capture on camera.

Scientists proved that the sea still holds some big mysteries after capturing footage of the colossal squid — the largest invertebrate on the planet — in its habitat for the first time.

The mysterious creature was filmed in the ocean near Antarctica. Scientists documented the juvenile, which could grow to more than 1,000 pounds.
