Google has started hosting platform tools downloads without the other stuff that are a mere 3.5MB. You can get the platform tools for Windows, Linux, or Mac direct from Google's servers.

Having ADB and fastboot available outside of the other two main downloads, first of all, saves space. Android SDK takes up 292 MB of space.

Download the Android SDK or the One-Click ADB installer Head over to the Android Developers page to download the Android SDK. Place the SDK file anywhere on your system.
