The Golden State Valkyries nearly pulled off an impressive road win Thursday but fell to WNBA champions New York Liberty on their home court for the second time in three days.

The Valkyries got one final chance to tie, but Zandalasini’s fading three-point try from the left wing fell short as Golden State couldn’t pull off the upset. New York ended the game on a 9-2 run in the final 2:24 to close out the visiting Valkyries.

In the end, though, Natasha Cloud put the game away, scoring four points in the final 24 seconds, and the Liberty managed to survive the Valkyries, 82-77, to secure their best start (5-0) since 2007. It wasn’t comfortable or pretty, but it was a win.
