A s Storm Floris continues to hit, the Met Office has warned it is likely to bring a spell of unseasonably strong and potentially disruptive winds across Northern Ireland. The yellow warning hit the north from 6am on Monday, bringing gale force winds, while there are weather alerts throughout much of the UK.

Thousands of homes have been left without power after “significant disruption” caused by Storm Floris. The Scottish Government called an emergency meeting in response to the storm as delays on rail, roads and sea continued into Tuesday. ScotRail said suspended routes would not be reopened until around 4pm.

Storm Floris is set to hit Merseyside on Monday, bringing strong winds and torrential rain. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the region and much of the North West due to the storm, while in Scotland an amber warning has been issued.
