A California utility has agreed to pay the federal government $82.5 million stemming from an enormous 2020 wildfire that churned through mountains northeast of Los Angeles and into the Mojave Desert.

Southern California Edison agreed to pay $82.5 million to settle the 2020 Bobcat Fire claims without admitting fault. The settlement recovers firefighting costs and aids in Angeles National Forest restoration.

Southern California Edison (SCE), a unit of utility Edison International, agreed on Friday to pay $82.5 million to settle claims with the U.S. Forest Service for costs and damages resulting from the Bobcat Fire in 2020.
