Travel disruption and flooding could hit some areas as up to 150 millimetres of rain could fall, Met Office meteorologist Jonathan Vautrey said. He said: “Over the next 24-36 hours, the rainfall totals really will be building up with widely half a month’s worth of rain falling across parts of the Highlands and even into northern areas of Argyll and Bute.

A Met Office yellow warning is in force and runs until midday on Tuesday, covering parts of the Highlands, Argyll and Bute, Perthshire and the Stirling area.

The Met Office has issued a 42-hour weather warning as its map shows where up to six inches of rain could fall in the upcoming bad weather.

Parts of Scotland can expect to be drenched in torrential downpours from tonight with the Met Office issuing yellow weather warnings for rain. The yellow warning comes into force from 6pm covering parts of the northwest.
