National Hurricane Center tracking 5 tropical waves. Busiest period of hurricane season coming
In the Pacific, forecasters are watching five systems, including Hurricane Iona and Tropical Storm Keli. Iona has strengthened into a major hurricane and is close to Category 4 strength, with maximum sustained winds of 125 mph about 790 miles south-southeast of Honolulu, Hawaii.
The National Hurricane Center is tracking three tropical waves. Tropical wave 1: A far eastern Atlantic tropical wave is along 27W, from 09N to 22N, moving westward at 11 to 17 mph.
