LANSING — The Republican-led House voted Thursday to keep intact portions of existing minimum wage and paid sick time laws rather than let new, more expansive replacements take effect in a month, a move to aid anxious business owners but one that would affect more than 1 million workers.

With less than a month remaining until new minimum wage and paid sick leave laws are set to take effect, the GOP-led Michigan House continued to fast track two bills that would roll back some of the changes.

The bill affecting restaurant servers and others who receive tips now heads to the Michigan Senate for consideration.

A new bill under consideration in the General Assembly would put the measure on the November 2026 ballot for voters to decide whether to increase the minimum wage to $20 an hour. Bill proponents want the increase to apply to tipped workers, and they want to exempt tips from taxes.
