The driverless ride-hailing service was supposed to be the shining star of GM's growth plans, leading to $50 billion in revenue by the end of this decade.

General Motors has shut down its Cruise robotaxi business after investing over $10 billion since 2016. Once seen as a potential $50 billion revenue driver, Cruise faced high costs, regulatory setbacks, and increasing competition from Waymo.

GM only owns around 90% of Cruise, but the company has agreements with other shareholders that will raise its stake to more than 97%. They’re aiming to acquire the remaining shares, so they can effectively kill the company and add the remains into their corporate mothership.
