STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Amid anti-fraud efforts, the U.S. Social Security Administration announced a new policy intended to speed up payments to recipients looking to have their benefits delivered via direct deposit.

Changes are coming from the Social Security Administration surrounding direct deposit for many recipients or applicants. Multiple changes surrounding direct deposit are expected to take effect starting at the end of the month.

The changes will start March 31. The agency will allow those who cannot use the My Social Security account to start the process over the phone but will require in-person visits to verify identity. You can visit a local office to process the change or call 1-800-772-1213 to schedule an in-person appointment.
