Leadership for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is favoring the idea of building a new arena for the men’s basketball program at an off-campus site, report says.

North Carolina leadership is exploring the possibility of building a new basketball arena at an off-campus location, per a report.

UNC students live on-campus their freshman year and generally move off-campus after that, either to apartments, fraternity or sorority houses or the houses that surround the campus. For most, the Smith Center is still in walking distance and the walk is essentially through campus.

As the future of the program continues to be in focus, so does developments for a new arena. Over the past year, there have been talks of either renovating the Dean Dome or building a new arena potentially off campus.
