After fierce opposition, a proposed Wawa at Cherry Hill's Barclay shopping center was cancelled. Now the Wawa it was supposed to replace is closing.

Wawa says the decision to close the store was made after an "extensive evaluation," but it'll leave regulars looking elsewhere.

The convenience store chain in 2021 proposed building a Super Wawa, with gasoline sales and 24-hour operations, at the Barclay Farm shopping center on the other side of Route 70. It dropped those plans in December 2022 after facing opposition from neighbors.

The store will shutter next month in a neighborhood where residents successfully mobilized against plans for a 'Super' Wawa.

After 51 years, the Wawa location at 1110 Marlton Pike East (Route 70) in Cherry Hill, New Jersey is set to close on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
