People are continuing to count the cost of Storm Darragh - but one man was told by his insurers it was not actually a storm at all. Dennis Iliffe was initially refused a pay-out because wind speeds in his home town of Kidderminster only hit 53 mph.

A pensioner was refused a payout for Storm Darragh's damage to his home after his insurers said the winds were "2mph too slow". Dennis Iliffe, 77, was left stunned when his insurance company told him they could not settle his claim because wind speeds in his home town did not hit 55mph.

A town centre road in Surrey is to remain closed after panels became loose on a hotel development during Storm Darragh. Victoria Way in Woking was shut in both directions on 7 December, due to damaged exterior rainscreen panels on the lower levels of the building.
