A man is facing charges after authorities say he crashed into the back of a state trooper’s cruiser on Storrow Drive in Boston late Monday night. Melvin Lopez, 32, of Chelsea, is slated to be arraigned Tuesday in Boston Municipal Court on several charges including operating under the influence of alcohol, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The Massachusetts State Police said Belter Ortega Lemus, 31, of Walpole, was charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, wrong operation of a motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated following his arraignment on Monday.

Shortly after 11 p.m., the trooper was driving east on Storrow Drive near Kenmore Square when their cruiser was rear-ended by a 2013 Acura SUV, causing heavy damage to both vehicles, State Police said.
