Veteran Malayalam actress Kaviyoor Ponnamma passed away on Friday, September 20, at the age of 79, leaving the film industry in grief. Superstar Mohanlal, who often played her on-screen son, penned an emotional note on social media about their bond.

Ponnamma: The Malayalam actress, fondly called Ponnamma Chechi (elder sister), passed away aged 80 at a private hospital in Kochi. She had been undergoing treatment for cancer since last May. Hospital sources said she was diagnosed with stage four cancer.
