(Reuters) -Former world champion Manny Pacquiao is embracing his underdog status as he gets ... "I mean, it's because I've been away from boxing why I'm still interested and passionate about fighting." The veteran fighter retired from boxing in 2021.

With trusted trainer Freddie Roach in his corner, the 46-year-old legend is coming out of retirement to challenge welterweight champ Mario Barrios on Saturday.

Pacquiao and his wife were assessed a $55.8 million tax bill, including penalties and interest, for allegedly failing to completely pay what he owed between 2008 and 2009, taking issue with his failure to report U.S. earnings. Pacquiao claimed he paid the taxes in the U.S.

Like virtually all the fighters in his generation, WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios grew up watching and drawing inspiration from Manny Pacquiao.

Each card contains world title fights and big names, with fights ranging from Oleksandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois for the undisputed heavyweight championship to Manny Pacquiao ending his retirement at 46 to fight Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight championship.

Pacquiao married his wife, Jinkee, in 1999. The two met at a shopping mall through Jinkee's uncle, who served as a trainer for Manny at the time. Manny "courted her persistently" for three months, according to The Philippine Star, and the two married as his boxing career was taking off.

This weekend marks the return to the boxing ring for Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao, the world’s only eight-division boxing champion, following his four-year retirement from the sport.
