LE BOURGET—LOT Polish Airlines is switching its large regional fleet from Embraer E1s and E2s to the Airbus A220, a decision that opens up the opportunity for the airline to offer more capacity with a single type.
Airbus is expected to complete the purchase of the A220 wing plant in Belfast later this year but there is still uncertainty for much of the workforce at Spirit. Spirit's wider global business is being carved up between Boeing and Airbus, the world's largest aircraft manufacturers.
Embraer has signalled that it believes the LOT selection of the Airbus A220 over its E2 regional jets was influenced by political considerations. LOT has chosen to take 40 A220s - a mix of -100s and -300s - to replace its Embraer fleet,
LOT said the A220s will gradually replace its existing regional aircraft fleet, which primarily comprises Embraer E1s. Fijoł said LOT’s E2s will “stay for as long as possible,” but will ultimately also be replaced.
