He would also feel a form of self-reproach, or even envy,” Lee continued. “ But the deepest part of him wanted to see Gi-hun not give in and continue to hold onto hope for the world and for humanity .” In short: he wanted Gi-hun to win.

As surprising as Gi-hun's fate might have seemed in Squid Game season 3's ending, it was accurately prophesied by one character almost six months ago.

When asked what those conversations looked like, Lee emphasized that “Squid Game” was originally intended to be a one season show. The series’ creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk only returned to make Seasons 2 and 3 because of the resounding popularity of the first installment.
