Recent Gallup polling indicates a rising percentage of U.S. adults identify as LGBTQ+ with 9.3% of those polled in 2024, which is up more than 1% from 2023.

Gallup surveyed more than 14,000 U.S. adults for the poll to find 85.7% of respondents said they are straight, 5.2% are bisexual, 2.0% are gay, 1.4% are lesbian, 1.3% are transgender and just under 1% mentioned a different LGBTQ+ identity, such as pansexual or asexual (5% declined to answer the question).

The percentage of young people identifying as LGBTQ+ has increased over the past two years from an average of 18.8% in 2020 through 2022 to an average of 22.7%, according to the poll.
