The search for missing bodies is ongoing along Texas’ Guadalupe River after catastrophic and deadly flooding killed nearly 100 people following a torrential downpour early Friday morning.

The torrential rain that brought destruction to a children’s summer camp and other holiday spots in rural Texas came with devastating speed. Water came crashing through the stone cabins of Camp Mystic in the early hours of Friday with little warning as the girls and staff slept.

Growing up near the Guadalupe River in Kerrville, Texas, could sometimes feel like living near a volcano. I was born two blocks away from the gorgeous river that flows from the Hill Country to the Gulf of Mexico, just one year before the devastating and deadly 1987 flash flood, often described around town as the “big one.”
