Human remains discovered in a vehicle found submerged in the Mississippi River in September have been identified of a missing East Moline man from 2019.

The remains were identified as Daniel Claeys, who was in his early 30s when his family said he was missing in 2019.

He was found in a truck reported stolen in 2017, according to police. How it ended up in the Mississippi River isn’t exactly clear, but investigators believe it was resting in the murky water for a long time, saying it was “buried deep in the mud.”
