Founded in 1875, incorporated in 1883, Oakwood Cemetery Association is the oldest association in Jefferson County. The final resting place of Civil War veterans and an Illinois Governor to Veterans of every American war to prominent founders and members of Mt. Vernon and surrounding areas, Oakwood cemetery consists of over eleven-thousand graves. Cemetery is open daily and located on Broadway, the main road through Mt. Vernon.
